Here is news of another book-related event coming up in our community:
Saadia Faruqi, a local author of the short story collection “Brick Walls”, has written one of the entries in the just released book entitled “Mirror on the Veil: a Collection of Personal Essays on Hijab and Veiling” (cover photo attached). She and Dr. Nausheen Pasha-Zaidi of the University of Houston, one of the co-editors of the book, will be taking part in the next “Making Connections” lecture in the Forum of the Cypress Creek Christian Community Center, 6823 Cypresswood Drive, on Tuesday, May 23, 6:30 pm. They will discuss the various conversations that people are having with regards to the timely topic of hijab and veiling in contemporary societies around the globe. Why do women wear a hijab? Is it a religious requirement? A cultural tradition? A personal choice? Or something else?
Copies of the book will be available for purchase, or it can be purchased in advance from Amazon and signed by the authors. The event is free, open to all, and requires no reservations.
